How to Avail
These services are not part of the default package, as these are separately charged. Needy organizations shall contact <firstname.lastname@example.org> for pricing details and quote.
We can provide TEX support to users or authors who use TEX to prepare their manuscripts. We can also develop document classes, custom TEX packages, BibTEX style files, etc., and release them along with a well-written online user documentation in MediaWiki and PDF formats. 90% of the support team members have more than 20 years experience in TEX and typesetting. The average turn around time to resolve an issue is 15–30 min from the time it is assigned to our team. We also help publishers in preparing guidelines for authors and advice them on any TEX related queries.
Scheduled status reports of production can be provided to clients as a service. Reports shall be tailor made to meet clients’ requirements like periodicity and/or items of information.
XML is the document format for archival of data for digital preservation and to ensure longevity of documents. Archival formats allow documents to be used in future with technologies unknown now, but invented in future. The current document formats do not allow this feature making them obsolete within a short span of time causing huge loss of resources.
HTML5 is considered to be the document format of future and it has support even in mobile devices like tablets and most of the smart phones. If publishers want it as one of the deliverables, we can provide HTML5 version of journal articles or book content in addition to XML, JSON and PDF. This will be generated from XML using an automated process.
Math in XML
Math in XML can be retained in different formats:
- Math can be retained as TEX which is the de facto standard for digitizing math notations and formulae.
- Second option is to keep math as graphic images like, .gif or .jpg or .png or .svg.
- Shall be kept as HTML math. This option does not provide to capture all math, hence, can be used as a combination with other options.
- As MathML, which is the newest format for digitizing math. MathML is supported by many browsers like Firefox, Opera and partially by Safari.
- All four formats above.
We can create either articled based or issue based ePub documents (ver. 3.0). Math can be retained as MathML or .gif/.jpg/.svg images. Separate ePubs can be produced for each book chapters as well. We can also generate ePub from TEX documents directly or from XML.
If our clients demand, we can provide our FTP site for file transfer, PDF proof hosting etc. Files are deleted as soon as they are downloaded, but can keep them as backup for a certain period of time upon mutual agreement.
Linking External Object
There are different types of objects, hosted by various external repositories relating to various different disciplines of Science that would require linking within a journal article. For example, GenBank accession numbers, PDB numbers, CTGOV numbers, OMIM numbers, PubMed IDs etc. While preparing their manuscript for submission, if authors can clearly mention the object type, we can link these numbers to their corresponding repositories.
Auto-checking of bibliographic items with CrossRef, retrieving their corresponding DOI s and inserting into XML and PDF documents can be done. It is a batch querying process which results in retrieval of DOI’s in XML format, the insertion of same into documents becomes completely automatic. Likewise, we can query PubMedCentral and get PMIDs of each reference items and insert into the article XML.
Standards Compliant PDF
Using pdfLATEX we can create PDF files that conform with ISO standards, including PDF/A for archiving and PDF/X for print production. We will create these PDFs through XML-first workflow without any manual intervention. We are now half-way through so far as accessible PDF development is concerned which is a challenge for a TEX based workflow, particularly, when the content has a lot of math.
PDF proofs are uploaded and hosted in web servers. Authors will be informed about the upload of their PDF proofs through a standard email which carries a link to download the PDF proof. Problems like large file attachments, firewalls rejecting mails with attachments, etc., can be avoided which is a main feature of this facility.
Forum provides a new experience in publisher–typesetter communication, replaces traditional e-mail communication. We encourage use of forum as a means of all production related communications. All information at one place providing easy and efficient search facility, less usage of disk space by avoiding to keep mails by different persons, easy follow-up of workflow in one’s absence, no worry of accidental mail deletion, etc., are the main advantages.
We can provide MediaWiki based online documentation for packages, workflows, systems and processes for authors and other interested users as well. MediaWiki provides collaborative documentation with remarkable abilities of version control and reversion to any previous version seamlessly.
